Socket specialise in Bluetooth barcode scanners and they’ve practically got one for every occasion, however one thing we do hear with a fair degree of frequency is for a “scanner like the Apple store has” for smartphones.

Well the new Socket CHS 8i might just answer those calls and more.

As you can see from the photo above, the Socket CHS 8i serves 2 purposes.  First its a slim Bluetooth scanner that’ll work with any smartphone or tablet, that’s slim enough to slip into a shirt pocket comfortably.  It brings something new to the market in that sense in that its super slim.

Secondly though it comes with a range of clip on accessories that enable you to snap it on to a smartphone in a “sled-like” manner so you have a Bluetooth scanner that you can scan and use in the same hand as your smartphone…. Just like those people in the Apple store!

No prices have been set yet, but we’d say if they can come under the 2 current solutions in this market from Honeywell Captuvo SL22 and Linea Pros range of sleds (That Apple stores use) then it’ll be something to watch for.  Also just for the record Socket has great support, we have never been able to get a single response from Linea Pro about anything!!

So far there are sled attachments for the iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S4, but more are planned.

We’re on the beta program so we’ll update you with more as we help test.
