Whilst Android rugged PDA’s haven’t really caught on just yet in the way we tend to think about them, Android has indeed been busy taking a hold of both the rugged, smart phone and tablet market. Indeed figures announced for Q3, 2012 show that the smart phone market in particular is only growing in one way and that’s Android. With 75% market share, its nearest rival, in IOS, is 60 points back on this with all the other OS’s now only accounting for a measly 10% when all added together. With projections reaching the golden 80% by the end of the year, Android is certainly here to stay and dominate for some time yet. We love Android here but it’s a completely different animal to Windows Mobile and as such needs taming and using differently!
So to take us up until the Christmas break we’re talking about Android and just why it’s now possibly a better OS than Windows Mobile. Sure it’s not mission critical in the sense we all talk about (and have been for the past few years) but has the software and mobile market changed now so that this message is no longer valid? This week we’ll take a look at Android and pick out the top 10 features that make it an OS worthy of its crown in the rugged Android market too. We’ll highlight where it’s simply better than Windows Mobile and then weigh up why, even in a business and Rugged market, Android could be a better OS for your business and users.
